Our Story
Arima Onsen, a scenic spa town, has been known for the healing qualities of its hot springs since ancient times. At Nakanobo, we continue the work of our founder, Genjirō Kajiki, in promoting Arima, its rich history and special cultural identity.
Founder Genjirō Kajiki
In 1868, Genjirō Kajiki, mayor of Yunoyama-cho, received the Arima hot spring inn called Nakano Bō as gratitude for his contributions to the town. In 1873, he requested an investigation into the spring that had previously been feared as poisonous water that caused the death of birds and insects. After extensive testing, the Hyogo Prefectural Office confirmed that the water was not poisonous, that it was in fact high-quality carbonated water. Later on, this colorless carbon dioxide cold mineral spring came to be known as "ginsen", and the carbonated water is now enjoyed by all as "Arima Mineral Cider".
For the Benefit of Society
Since its founding, by Nakano Bō has always operated under the guiding philosophy passed down by our founder, Genjirō Kajiki – everything should be done "for the benefit society". In this spirit, the comfort and pleasure of our guests come above all else.
Spirit of Chanoyu (Tea Ceremony)
Our brand of hospitality is rooted in the teachings of Sen no Rikyū, who elevated the tea ceremony into an art form, outlining seven principles in "Rikyū Shichisoku" (Seven Precepts of Rikyū).
